Friday Night Lights-updated

*Updated with galleries - Last night's New Hanover game at Legion Stadium was my first high school football photography outing. The New Hanover Wildcats beat the Fayetteville Cape Fear Stallions 21-18 in what was the Wildcat's first win under new head coach Kevin Motsinger. Special thanks to New Hanover Athletic Director Keith Moore who allowed me access to the field. Below are some pics from the sidelines.

Halley at the south end of Wrightsville Beach

Here is a recent photo shoot with Halley at the south end of Wrightsville Beach. It was one of the more beautiful sunsets I have seen in a while.

Check out more photos at the beach.

Summer Trip in the Mountains

We’re back from our last summer trip before school starts back. Our latest venture was to western NC. Our first stop was in the Highlands where we stayed one night at the Main Street Inn. The Inn is over 100 years old and is very quaint. The staff, led by Inn Keeper Gary Garner, was exceptional and the warm breakfast was beyond all expectations. I highly recommend the Main Street Inn.

The next day was spent taking in the waterfalls of the mountains. Did you know that Whitewater Falls at 411 feet is the highest falls east of the Rockies? And it’s in our very own state! The next stops were Silver Falls, Glen Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and my favorite, Dry Falls. After way too many photos we headed up to Sylva which is where we stayed the next four nights.

Friday was spent riding up to Cades Cove in Tennessee. I had never been there before even though it’s one of Donna’s favorite stops in the mountains. This is where I took the photo of the deer which was outside the Primitive Baptist Church. I was only about 12 feet away from her before she wandered off!

On Saturday, we took a ride down the Nantahala which was my first experience rafting. We had so much fun that I think the NOC will become a yearly experience.

Sunday was spent heading up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had a picnic lunch at Waterrock Knob followed by an exhausting hike up the Knob. Afterwards, we headed down to Bryson City and went tubing at Deep Creek.

We also spent some of the time riding around and exploring Sylva, Dillsboro, Bryson City and Cherokee. If you’re ever in Sylva, check out Lulu’s Café as well as the Penumbra Gallery. Both are on West Main Street.
