We Are...Marshall

The Marshall University Alumni Club of Wilmington sponsored a buffet dinner and private showing of "We Are...Marshall" tonight at the Mayfaire Cinema. The dinner was catered by Middle of the Island which did an outstanding job. The alumni club really put a lot of effort into this event and the turnout was amazing. Based on reviews of the movie, I was expecting something good and it did not disappoint. The movie is a true story about the 1970 plane crash which killed the entire Marshall University football team and is one of the greatest tragedies in sports history. The crash not only affected the school but the entire town as coaches, school administrators, boosters and fans were on the plane. It is a triumphant story of how the town of Huntington, WV rallied around the school and rebuilt the storied football program. I highly recommend this movie. Note: this movie contains emotional material, a plane crash and some language.

Fun Downtown

This past Sunday, I had a recent photo session scheduled with some good friends of mine. As we were heading downtown, we came up on some road barricades a couple of blocks from Water Street so we tucked into a parking garage and walked the rest of the way. I figured that they were shooting a movie or something which is pretty common around town since the film studios are here. But as we got to Water Street there were no cameras or lighting or equipment trucks...just lawn chairs. Odd.

Anyway, we met up with the Skeltons and started walking around and taking photos. We took some posed family shots for their Christmas cards and then moved on to some candids which are always my favorite. I really enjoy capturing the way a family interacts. During our time together, this guy comes over a PA system and starts this clucking song and is singing about chicken. While I was thinking that I was just not in touch with my downtown artsy side, we turned the corner and saw that it was the Wilmington Christmas Parade. I have never been on a photo shoot when a parade broke out so this was a first. And I'm still trying to figure out the chicken dude and his context in the Christmas Parade. I was able to grab some shots of the Skeltons watching the parade which wrapped up our photo session. It was a pretty cool time and I found out that I need to be prepared for just about anything when I head downtown.

Just a Few photos

I had a great time Saturday afternoon with Brian and Lindsay Few. Brian is the director of Overflow which is Port City Community Church's young adult ministry. They are great friends and I always have a blast hanging out with them. Stella was as cute as always and I don't think Wrightsville Beach is big enough to contain her. She received a lot of photo attention since her new-born brother, Oliver, was all wrapped up as it was a tad bit cool. After many days of clouds and rain, we had a gorgeous afternoon to hang out for a while.
